100 years ago the then ‘London Group of P & I Clubs’ advised each and every one of their members that every vessel arriving at Hull to discharge cargo must advise McAuslands in advance so that they could have a surveyor carry out an inspection of the cargo. The arrangement was reviewed some 50 years later when it was agreed that it should remain. The original advice to members has never, officially, been retracted. In essence this was a carte blanche appointment to attend every vessel. Although the Company had already been in operation for over 25 years at that time it cemented the bond between the Clubs and the Company that exists to this day.
To celebrate this occasion the Company hired the Tattershall Castle which is berthed on the Thames in the shadows of Big Ben and the London Eye. The excellent music was provided by Tony Lacey-Enifer and his rock band and the ship’s food was delicious. The drinks flowed and we think that a good night was had by all. Here’s to doing it all again next year!
